Back in the USSR (27-30.09.01)

Ipswich Town Football Club were pulled out of the hat to draw FC Torpedo Moscow in the first round of the 2001/02 UEFA Cup competition, so after only 10 months, it was a case of being back in the U.S.S.R. (CIS doesn't have the same ring to it!)

The monument “300 years of Russian fleet”, more popularly known as the monument to Peter I, was erected in 1997. The monument is a figure of Peter I at the wheel of a ship on high pedestal.



The imposing Moscow State University is one of the 'Seven Sisters' (or vysotki, in Russian). As the name suggests it forms a group of seven Stalinist sykscrapers in Moscow and when completed in 1953 was Europe's tallest building (until 1988) and 7th tallest in the world.



Taking a step back you get a better view of the 787ft tall building.
